ICC reopens possibility of Genocide charges against Bashir
On Wednesday, the Appeals Chamber at the International Criminal Court handed down its decision, reversing unanimously the Pretrial Chamber's decision not to include genocide among the charges included in the arrest warrant for Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir. The Appeals Chamber cited the Pretrial Chamber's use of the wrong legal standard of proof for the change.
This decision does not mean that President Bashir will now be charged with genocide in addition to the other crimes he is charged with--merely that due to legal technicality, the case is being sent back for additional review at which point the charge may or may not be added.
