Inspiring Stories of Grassroots Activism
GI-Net has a broad and diverse membership with participation by people from all walks of life. Individuals, families and communities throughout the world are dedicated to preventing and stopping genocide. GI-Net members send us inspiring stories all the time and we’d like to share with you a sampling of their impressive accomplishments.
Age is not an obstacle to anti-genocide activism
Santiago is eight years old, and like you, he is concerned about the men, women and children who are being killed in the Darfur genocide. Santiago knew he could do something to help the victims of genocide in Darfur. So he gathered up all of the money in his piggy bank — nickels and dimes, quarters and pennies — put them in a bag, and sent them to our office.
More than half of Santiago's $15 will go directly to supporting civilian protection in Darfur. Money raised by GI-Net will fund the African Union peacekeeping force — currently the only force willing and able to protect civilians in Darfur from genocide. The remainder of Santiago’s donation will support GI-Net's ongoing education and advocacy efforts.
If you are able, we encourage you to join Santiago and support peacekeeping initiatives in Darfur.

In addition to his piggy-bank money, Santiago sent us a picture he had drawn (see below)— of civilians being protected from falling bombs…and peace overcoming genocide. Santiago knows he can make a difference in Darfur, and you can too!
