Genocide Intervention Network (GI-NET) is changing the way the United States and the international community responds to the world's worst crimes by empowering individuals and communities with the tools to prevent and stop genocide. GI-NET's aim is to build the first permanent anti-genocide constituency.
GI-NET is recruiting a network of anti-genocide activists who educate their communities, pressure their elected officials, and fundraise directly for civilian protection. Currently the organization's work is focused on ending the ongoing genocide in Darfur, Sudan.
GI-NET seeks to fill two Advocacy Analyst positions in our Economic Advocacy program. Successful candidates will be highly motivated individuals who will support our Sudan company research, assist in policy development, and communicate/coordinate with targeted companies, fiduciaries, institutional investors, members of the investment community, fellow NGOs, and other organizations working in the field of corporate social responsibility and socially responsible investing.
Summary of Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree required
- Work experience specifically related to Sudan, particularly to Sudan divestment and/or company operations in Sudan, can substitute as an equivalent for educational requirements
- Intermediate to advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office programs
- Strong written and verbal communication skills required
- Must be a self-motivated professional able to work effectively independently and as a team
- Ability to manage time and multiple assignments within assigned deadlines
- Strong written and analytical skills, combined with attention to detail
- Must have a specific interest in preventing and stopping genocide across the world
Priority will be given to candidates with a thorough understanding of the Sudan.
Summary of Job Description:
- Monitors company activity in Sudan: This includes daily research from a variety of online and scholarly sources and ongoing contact with companies and other stakeholders based on findings from this research.
- Produces the Sudan Company Report: The incumbent is responsible for ensuring that the organization's research on companies operating in Sudan is sufficiently organized, updated and formatted for the quarterly Sudan Company Report. The incumbent will also help answer questions from GI-NET staff regarding the Sudan Company Report.
- Engages with Companies Operating in Sudan: This includes e-mail, phone and in-person meetings with companies in Sudan and third-parties assessing company operations in Sudan. These communications will include seeking clarification of company operations and offering the GI-NET perspective on what constitutes problematic operations in Sudan, including suggestions for changes to company behavior. Through these communications the incumbent should seek to pressure companies to cease their problematic operations in Sudan.
- Participates in Specific Policy and Research Projects: The incumbent participates in the drafting of economic policy papers and model legislation and the development of economic advocacy strategy.
- Communicates with Fiduciaries and the Asset Management/Investment
- Community: This includes e-mail, phone, and in-person meetings as well as attendance at relevant conferences. Through these communications the incumbent will advocate for and monitor the introduction of investment vehicles and other products that are consistent with GI-NET policy.
Compensation:
Low to mid $30's
